Fonterra Selects Local Provider for Supply Chain Contract

One of New Zealand’s largest transport contracts has been won by local consortium Dairy Transport Logistic’s Limited (DTL).

After an international review of best practice, Fonterra has selected the supply chain management company (DTL) to manage domestic road transport networks for Fonterra from June 2008.

DTL is owned by NZL Group, one of New Zealand’s largest logistics companies based in Auckland and Tauranga and K&S Freighters based in New Zealand at Cambridge.

Ken Harris chairman of DTL, said “DTL are delighted to have won one of the largest supply chain contracts available in New Zealand particularly for such a sophisticated client.

Mr Harris said that he believed that DTL had won the contract as it had offered an advanced business model, that selected the best available operator from an extensive network of transport contractors. The ability to reduce CO2 emissions and cost by using information technology and partnerships to optimise unit selection, routes and loads was an important factor. The outcomes are highly efficient and socially responsible.

DTL has a network of more than 800 trucks and also uses coastal shipping options.
